SZ podcast: The sporting year 2021 – sport

Another unusual sporting year is coming to an end, one that was shaped by the corona pandemic and yet had many top performances, major events and emotions to offer. The new episode of the SZ podcast “And now to the sport” looks back on 2021 in two parts.

In Part 2 Moderator Anna Dreher talks to Philipp Schneider about a spectacular Formula 1 season in which it was not decided who would be world champion until the last few meters of the last Grand Prix. The way has sparked a controversy that is likely to result in rule changes – and makes the duel between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen even more exciting in the coming year.

So much happened at the German Football Association (DFB) in 2021 that it is easy to lose track of things – especially since new things are constantly being added. Sports policy expert Thomas Kistner looks at the power struggle of the association’s management, sheds light on the role of interim president Rainer Koch and examines the question of what would have to change for a new beginning.

And while the officials don’t give a good picture, at least the national team has found its way back on track. With the departure of Joachim Löw an era ended – with the start of Hansi Flick as national coach, a new one could begin. What is possible with him as a coach? Where does the national team stand? What chances does she have at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022? Reporter Philipp Selldorf answers these and other questions.
