‘Stadion Feijenoord now really wants to work on unification’

Stadium Feijenoord hardly attracted an audience last year because of the corona crisis. Not only were most football matches with little or no audience, but also no events could be organised. As a result, income for the stadium decreased by 65% compared to a regular year.

It is one of the reasons why the management of Stadion Feijenoord will investigate whether it is possible to merge with football club Feyenoord. The stadium can still support itself until December 2022 if the current situation were to continue, after which action would have to be taken in the workforce and wages, among other things. In practice, it means that the continuity of the stadium is not at stake, as we know RTV Rijnmond to report.

In a presentation of a recent meeting with the shareholders, it is expressed as follows: “The current organizational structure of Stadion and BVO forms an obstacle to an effective and efficient cooperation between both organizations. Both for the stadium project and for the regular day-to-day operation. insight has been around for some time, but has not yet been fundamentally addressed. BVO and Stadion now intend to make a final choice in this regard.”

“What is the desired organizational and operational relationship between BVO and Stadium? And how do we shape it legally, financially and otherwise?” In theory, this could lead to Feyenoord and Feijenoord Stadium becoming one organisation, with one Supervisory Board, one management board and a separate stadium director. More information about the above plans will become clear in the second half of 2022.
