Sport-studies, join an archery hopeful pole at the start of the 2022 school year

The archery poles have opened their recruitment period. More commonly called sport-study, they allow young athletes to combine the practice of their sport and the pursuit of their studies in the most suitable conditions. If you are under 16 and are keen on top archery, then this article is for you.

The young tricolor archers achieved a card last summer at the world youth championship in Wroclaw in Poland with six medals including three world titles. Most have one thing in common, they come from the high level sector and the Poles Espoirs or Relève just like the best French archers in Tokyo such as Lisa Barbelin, Jean-Charles Valladont or Thomas chirault.

This end of the year marks the beginning of the recruitment period for the Pôles Espoirs. These adapted structures allow young athletes to flourish and are a real springboard for integrating, in the long term, the French teams. If you are interested in the adventure of a pole of hope, here is a short presentation of the Poles.

The French Archery Federation has 8 poles divided into three categories:

  • The hope centers: The gateway for most young archers to reach the top level, the hope centers, four in number, allow them to follow sports training aimed at developing their technical and training capacities. They are the basis of the progression of young people to the highest level.
  • The France Relève clusters: These national structures are intended to support the best cadets and juniors. There are three in France for archery.
  • The France Élite pole at Insep: It is aimed at archers preparing for major international events including the Olympic Games. There is only one, located in the Bois de Vincennes in Paris.

Who are the poles for?

The hopeful archery centers, located in Boulouris, Nantes, Châtenay-Malabry and Compiègne, are open to young people aged 12 to 15 who wish to engage in a process of reaching a high level. They make it possible to combine sports and school training.

Why join a pole?

To improve your technical skills, increase the frequency of training and benefit from appropriate supervision to develop your performance. This is the first step to reach the highest level. The poles will also allow you to participate in several national competitions to confront archers from other structures.

How to join an archery pole?

To join the high-level sector, you must contact the coaches of the succession centers. They will be able to give you details of the admission procedures specific to each structure. For the most part, an internship or training is carried out with the pole coordinator to assess the candidate’s level of performance and progress capacities. Access to a center also depends on the number of places available and the child’s educational level.
