Spain and the Netherlands share the victories in the 45 Christmas Race in Palamós

The 45th Christmas Race, which was held from December 19 to 22 in the waters of Palamós Bay, ended today with six Spanish victories, in 470 Mixed María Bover / Pablo García, in ILCA7 Ricard Castellví, in ILCA6 Male Daniel Cardona and in Female Isabel Hernández, in 420 Marc Mesquida and Ramon Jaume in Male and Stella Maris Enríquez / María Núñez in Female. In the ILCA4 the titles went to the Netherlands with the victory of Floris Scharffordt in Men and Singe Brinkert in Women. The special Manel Albalat awards, for the absolute winner of the Christmas Race, went to the Catalan Ricard Castellví (ILCA7) and the Diputació de Girona award, to the first overall junior, to the Balearic Xavier García Ollé.

It was a Christmas Race characterized by light winds, but it was still complete. In the 470 Mixed class, ten of the eleven scheduled events could be held. The champion crew of Spain, formed by María Bover (RCN Palma) and Pablo García (RCN Gran Canaria) has been the winner after going from less to more and prevailing on the last day over the powerful Italian fleet, remaining the three-time world champion Optimist Marco Gradoni and Alessandra Dubini and the double junior world runner-up Benedetta Di Salle and Francesco Padovani, in second and third place respectively.

Another of the Olympic classes, ILCA7, podium one hundred percent Spanish with the triumph of the Catalan Ricard Castellví (CN Cambrils) after a tough fight with the Balearic Pep Cazador (CN Arenal), who dominated the first two days, while Castellví was superior in the last two. Third place went to Mario Plomer (CV Puerto d’Andratx), also from the Balearic Islands.

The third Olympic category in Palamós, ILCA6 for Women, the Canarian Isabel Hernández (RCN Gran Canaria) ended up beating Cristina Vilariño (CN Arenal) and Ascensión Roca de Togores (RCN Torrevieja), who had led in the previous days. In ILCA6 Absolute and Male the title went to Daniel Cardona (CN Arenal), followed by Dutchman Daan Boekholt. Third was Hernández, who in addition to the women’s title rose to third place in the absolute drawer.

In class 420, Marc Mesquida and Ramon Jaume (CN Arenal) won in the absolute and male category, while in the female category the Galician women Stela Maris Enríquez / María Núñez (RCN Sanxenxo) won. The Catalans Pau Llibre Vinyes-Miralpeix / Alberto Marsans (CN El Balís) and the French Colin Postel / Louis Arnaud, completed the absolute podium.

In the ILCA4 promotion class the titles, both male and female, have gone to Holland, with Floris Scharffordt and Signe Brinkert. The current Majorcan European Optimist champion, Xavier García Ollé (RCN Palma) finished second and the Finnish Tatu Uusitalo (CN Cambrils) completed the podium.
