RWE wins in Straelen: The year 2021 will end with the winter championship

Rot-Weiss Essen ended its good year 2021 successfully: RWE is the table leader after more than half of the season and is going into the winter break in pole position.

Rot-Weiss Essen could not be defeated a third time in a row by SV Straelen and won 1-0 on Römerstraße. In front of 1000 spectators, Simon Engelmann (45th) scored the goal of the day. This puts RWE in first place for the winter.

RWE started very concentrated on Römer Straße and after only three minutes had a big thing on its feet. Isaiah Young sent Cedric Harenbrockwho was free, but to SVS-Keeper Robin Udegbe failed. On a pitch that was difficult to play on, the championship leader was the better, the more powerful team, without having the very big opportunities – apart from Harenbrock’s big chance. Harenbrock (29th) and Luca Dürholtz (31.) tried two good long-range shots, but both just missed the target.

Rot-Weiss Essen: Davari – Plechaty (89th Kourouma), Herzenbruch, Rios Alonso, Bastians – Young, Tarnat, Dürholtz, Harenbrock (82nd Langesberg) – Janjic (72nd Janjic), Engelmann (87th home).

SV Straelen: Udegbe – Päffgen, Lachheb, Simoes Ribeiro (40th Stevens), Peitz – Lunga (40th Jiha), Miyamoto, Ngyombo (58th Mehlich), Pfeiffer – Kader, Rizzo.

Referee: Florian Visse.

Tor: 0:1 Engelmann (45.).

Spectator: 1000.

Yellow cards: Päffgen, Rizzo – Plechaty.

Suddenly there was a goal chance for the guests from the Ruhr metropolis: Young came after a cross from Felix Bastians free to head, but only hit the crossbar from three meters – madness. The punishment followed almost promptly: Kelvin Lunga prevailed, sprinted halfway across the field and served Cagatay Kader. The RWE shock shot over the box from an acute angle Daniel Davariwho prevented the captain’s armband for him Dennis Grote wore.

Actually, the 1000 spectators – including 450 from Essen – were content with the 0-0 at halftime – until Simon Engelmann snapped. With the half-time whistle, Essen took the lead: After a corner, a cross came into the penalty area and then the ball suddenly landed in the mess of Straelen sixteen at Engelmann, who thanked Engelmann in a striker-style to make it 1-0 (45th).

As soon as he got out of the cabin, RWE immediately got serious. Zlatko Janjic hit after a header from Jose-Enrique Rios Alonso not getting the ball right and screwing up a really good opportunity. Young (57th) had this too. After a buttery flank of Sandro plechaty Young came to the ball in the penalty area, let off an opponent and failed with his left to Udegbe.

Whoever does not do the things at the front is known to be punished at the back. Davari caught up in the penalty area Gianluca Rizzo off their feet and after an hour of play there were penalties for coach Thomas Gerstner’s team. The shapeless squad – RevierSport reported – hit the bar – luck for RWE!

After the missed penalty, the game became more toxic and competitive. At RWE, the strength seemed to be dwindling a bit and Straelen sensed his chance not to lose the third competitive game in a row against Rot-Weiss Essen.

Start of training, Turkey, top game

But nothing came of it: RWE fought, did not allow any danger in front of the Davari box and won 1-0. This means that Rot-Weiss Essen is taking a break as the winter champion. Coach Christian Neidhart’s team will continue on January 3, 2022, before the RWE plane takes off for the Turkish Mediterranean to Belek on January 10, where RWE will prepare by January 16. The top game between RWE and Wuppertaler SV will take place on January 23rd.
