Rugby: Welsh player Ifan Phillips with one leg amputated after road accident

Ospreys hooker Ifan Phillips revealed on Sunday that he had to have a leg amputated after suffering a motorcycle accident in early December. “I was admitted to the operating room as soon as I arrived, but after a long surgery, it was not possible to save my leg. So I had to have an above-knee amputation, ”said Phillips, who is hoping to receive a prosthetic leg.

The 25-year-old, son of former Welsh hooker Kevin Philipps, was injured in a traffic accident in Swansea on December 5.

Phillips has started a fundraiser to support him and his family as they recover. This fundraising enabled him to collect more than 58,000 pounds (around 68,000 euros).

“Your donations will be used to finance my rehabilitation and, I hope, the purchase of a prosthetic leg, which will allow me to seize new opportunities,” he explained.

“Those who know me well know how active I am and will continue to be personally,” continued the hooker, who has 40 appearances with the Ospreys since his debut in 2017.
