The second line of Ampo Ordizia and Spanish international of New Zealand origin Kawa Leauma is seriously injured in a hospital in Amsterdam after rushing into the void on Saturday night from a terrace of a shopping center. After the match that Spain won (7-52) in Amsterdam, there was no third half and the teams were redirected to their hotels, where the Spanish had dinner in their room.

Leauma’s accident, however, occurred at a local Admiraal Banckertweg in Leiden, where the New Zealand-born player plunged into the void from the roof of the shopping center. The Spanish international and Ampo Ordizia player, who could not make his debut, was immediately treated by the health services and taken alive to the hospital where he would have been operated on in the last hours. Your situation is dire.

The Spanish Rugby Federation (FER) communicated this Sunday morning the accident with a brief message on social networks without giving scope of the severity of the player’s injuries. In the absence of official confirmation from the FER, the player is accompanied by a member of the Ordiziarra club and another from the Federation’s board of directors. According to the Dutch portal Telegraf, the spokesman for the Leiden rugby club claimed that the victim fell down from the terrace.

Open investigation

In addition to the Police and an ambulance, a trauma team was also called in. The victim was rushed to hospital, when the severity of his injuries was not yet known. All that is known is that he survived the fall. Hopefully it’s okay, “said Lugt Edwin van Diemen, Leiden spokesman. Police continue to investigate the cause of the incident. Last night, Federación and Ordizia indicated that their situation had improved, within the seriousness, and requested “respect for the privacy” of the player.

Leauma, who did not participate in the game against the Netherlands, did not enter the Los Leones squad on Friday. The New Zealand second line turned 32 precisely this Friday. This is his fourth season at Ampo Ordizia and he is one of the fundamental pieces of the team. He came to Ordizia in 2018 and is well loved by the fans and known by ‘Kawa’, his name. He was born in New Zealand, but also has Samoan nationality. In addition, he was going to debut with the fifteen of the lions shortly and hopefully he will do so sooner rather than later, which would indicate that he has recovered from his serious accident.

Leauma was going to make his official debut with the Spanish team because he had already completed the three-year residency established by the International Federation. A change in that regulation will extend that requirement to five years in January. Either he would line up on Saturday, something that could not be, or he would have to wait two more years. Santiago Santos, the coach, called up Leauma (almost two meters tall and 110 kilos in weight) for the games this fall.

Eibar victory

In the purely sports and in the Division of Honor B, Eibar beat Gaztedi 30-8 yesterday at Unbe. The day was played half with several games postponed. The only game postponed in the Division of Honor was that of Ampo.
