Cyriel Dessers has become a crowd favorite at Feyenoord and notices this especially outside the lines in Rotterdam. For example, he recently unintentionally caused a traffic jam on the Erasmus Bridge, he says with a laugh.
Dessers came over from KRC Genk just before the transfer deadline and has already delighted Het Legioen a few times with goals in injury time. “Last year at Genk, that was also a top team. So then you are also recognized and stuff. But I have never experienced it as fanatical and fierce as at Feyenoord,” he tells FC Afkicken. “When I go to town or to the cinema, that’s really bizarre.”
So he was recently on the Erasmus Bridge, with an electric scooter. “And a van comes by, it really stops in the middle of the intersection and opens its window and starts yelling at me. While there are maybe forty cars behind him… I think: boy, drive on, drive on! But yes, that speaks for the Feyenoord club and how people live in the city.”
