Oklahoma Disaster: Worst Defeat in NBA History! – Hibet Social

Going into the history books for the most important basketball league records in the world, the NBA, isn’t always something to strive for. Especially if the record is negative and represents the worst defeat in the history of this competition. To succeed “in the enterprise” were the Oklahoma City Thunder, who against Memphis I close the game with a sound 152 to 79, or -73 points behind, which is precisely the worst gap ever suffered by an NBA team.

The worst defeat in history

Before arriving at this historic game (which the protagonists would have gladly done without), however, we need to take a small step back to evaluate the situation in Oklahoma in this period. The more or less victorious auspicious times of Kevin Durant’s era (which led to the Division title five times in the last decade) are now far away, the whole team has been renewed, gradually yielding important pawns such as Paul George and especially Russell Westbrook, precisely for have some first choice in the next Draft as well as more advantageous changes (at the expense of a season from the last row, useful, however, just to start in front of the next Draft).

We are therefore in a period of full transition, with a team designed exclusively for the future rather than in the present. Today, however, we have to deal with a decidedly subdued and not up to date rooster, who already once again (against Indiana) had risked the record collapse.

He now comes against Memphis, who also took the field without one of his best elements like Ja Morant, who dominates especially in the small area, finishing with 53 rebounds (against 26) and about 53% also from three points. A target practice finished with a record of 73 points to the passive that enters the history of the NBA.

The other record games (negative)

Oklahoma thus enters history by removing the “primacy” of the Miami Heat, who in 1991 suffered a humiliating defeat against the Cleveland Cavaliers for 148 to 80, with 68 passive points representing the negative record so far.

No one had ever reached over 70 points, even if many teams had come close enough, ending up in the top ten in history (the one in the negative though). The Portland Blazers in 1998, who lost 124 to 59 to Indiana (-65), but also the 1972 Golden State Warrios had to suffer the shame of 162 to 99 (-63) against the Lakers.

Then redeeming themselves in 1991, when vice versa they gave 62 to the Sacramento Kings (153 to 91), or more recently it was the Charlotte Hornets who gave 61 to the Memphis Grizzlies (140 to 79) who today have instead written their name as executioners.
