ÖFB star David Alaba talks about his role as a father – football

After eleven years with Bayern, David Alaba moved to Real Madrid. Now Austria’s soccer star spoke about his role as a father.

His girlfriend Shalimar Heppner and the couple’s son also moved to the Spanish capital with the Viennese. Alaba enjoys life as a father, as he has now revealed to the Spanish “GQ”. “I love being a father, of course it has changed my life,” said the 29-year-old. And added: “It shows us that changing diapers is almost as good as playing football,” laughed the ÖFB star.

Bayern exit after the most successful season

Alaba did not think twice about the offer from Madrid. His star advisor Pini Zahavi had not been able to agree with Bayern on an extension of the expiring contract. Alaba therefore moved to Madrid on a free transfer in July. Some Bayern fans resented the Viennese for this step.

Alaba recently announced its move to Spain. With statements that will probably not go down well in Munich. “I was wondering how things should go next. The penultimate season at Bayern was the best in the club’s history. We won six titles,” the 29-year-old recalled.

Real “the largest club in the world”

This record season was also the reason for Alaba’s change. “That’s when I decided to change myself, to take on a new challenge and not take the easy path,” the central defender continued.

It was only logical for Alaba that the 29-year-old finally switched to the “royal”. “When you grow up with football, you know that Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world,” said Alaba with a tip against Bayern. “So nothing surprised me when I came here. When you have anything to do with football, Real is always in the headlines,” added the native of Vienna.

Fight against racism

Off the pitch, Alaba is always committed to good causes, using its popularity to fight against racism. Something that the ÖFB star also experienced first hand. “To be honest, it wasn’t easy. I struggled with a lot of racism in my childhood, but that made me who I am today,” said Alaba. And continued. “I think we should all stand up against racism and try to make our contribution. There are already a lot of campaigns in football, I think we’re on the right track,” said the native of Vienna.
