Inagaki: Hello, Mayor of Takizawa, Mr. Sawa! First of all, could you tell us about Mayor Takizawa and Sanjo City?
Mayor: Sanjo City is about 2 hours from Tokyo by Joetsu Shinkansen. It is a city with a population of about 95,000, located in the center of Niigata prefecture.
As a “manufacturing town” that has continued since the Edo period, the town has been thriving in the metal processing and manufacturing industries, and in recent years, outdoor equipment and camping equipment that make use of that technology have been attracting attention.
In addition, it is blessed with the abundant water and fertile soil of the Shinano River, which is the longest in Japan, and it is a town where you can often get agricultural products such as rice and fruits.
In order to let many people know about Sanjo City, which is full of charm, in recent years we have been focusing on “hometown tax payment” and have prepared a large number of special products that Sanjo City is proud of as rewards.

Mayor: Yes. From this year, we have introduced “LINE WORKS” so that city staff and related facilities can communicate smoothly. Especially this year, I used it as a communication tool with medical institutions regarding the intake of the new coronavirus vaccine. By using the “Group Talk Room” function instead of contacting only one medical institution by fax or e-mail, we were able to smoothly cooperate with all medical institutions.
In the future, we will utilize “LINE WORKS” as a tool for cooperation with medical institutions and welfare facilities in the event of a disaster and for online citizen consultation.
