Niko Kovac sacked as coach of AS Monaco – football

AS Monaco has sacked coach Niko Kovac (50). This was reported first by the French “L’Équipe”. BILD can also confirm this information.

The former Bayern coach took over in the Principality in summer 2020, leading the team to third place in the first season. However, the Croat failed in the Champions League qualification to Shakhtar Donetsk and had to compete with AS in the Europa League. The round of 16 in this competition (opponents still open) will now take place with a different coach.

There have already been rumors in the last few days that the Monaco bosses were dissatisfied. The accusation towards Kovac: The team is not developing any further, and the players have not made progress individually either.

Kovac previously coached FC Bayern from 2018 to November 2019, winning the championship and cup double with the 2019 record champions. Before that he was a trainer at Eintracht Frankfurt (March 2016 to 2018). He saved this team from relegation in 2015/16 in the relegation against 1.
