Nhat Nguyen was left without a place in the quarterfinals of the Badminton World Championships in Spain after losing an epic three-set match to China’s Zhao Jun Peng.
In a match that lasted 86 minutes, there was little between the two players during the passionate contest with Zhao beating the first set 21-19.
Dubliner Nguyen struck back in the second set, taking it by the same score, to set up a deciding set for a place in the last eight.
But it was the Chinese player who would finally progress after a three-point victory, 21-18 in the final set at Nguyen’s exit from the tournament after a very good performance in Huelva.
