Taxiarchis Founta’s departure from Rapid Vienna is a done deal. As insider Peter Linden reports, Gerhard Struber and New York Red Bulls are interested in the Greek.
Fountas’ contract in Hütteldorf runs for just six more months. The MLS club from New York is said to offer 200,000 euros for the striker – too little for Rapid managing director Zoran Barisic, who is still playing poker. A decision will probably be made before Rapid leaves for the training camp in Belek on January 15th.
A few days ago, Fountas manager Max Hagmayr confirmed in the delivery manthat his client will not extend his contract in Hütteldorf.
“A contract extension will not work out for economic reasons,” said Hagmayr zum delivery man. “Dejan Ljubicic could have been sold a year ago. The coach has vetoed his importance for the game. If Taxi is also seen that way, he’ll give everything for Rapid until the end of the season. Otherwise, it would have to be clarified whether one for all sides suitable winter transfer is possible. “
Fountas moved from SKN St. Pölten to Hütteldorf on a free transfer in the summer of 2019. In 90 games, Fountas scored 45 goals and prepared 19 goals. In the current season the Greek has 16 points scorer in 30 games in all competitions. The 26-year-old already played for Red Bull Salzburg in the Red Bull empire eight years ago. For the Austrian series champion, however, he only completed 36 minutes of play.
