NBA summary of December 8, 2021: Joel Embiid dunk towards victory

Joel Embiid had 32 points and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Charlotte Hornets for the second time in three days on Wednesday at 110-106.

The Sixers won 127-124 in overtime Monday, on the same field.

Seth Curry added 23 points and 8 assists, while Tobias Harris contributed 18 points.

In that loss, and in the absence of five players from the rotation, Gordon Hayward had his best points of the season with 31, in addition to 7 assists. LaMelo Ball was among those absent, he who submitted to the health and safety protocol of the NBA.

Embiid, who had been spectacular in his last game with 43 points and 15 rebounds, was less dominant but had 15 of his 19 free throws.

PJ Washington had a three-point shot to give the Hornets a 98-97 lead with 3 minutes remaining, but Danny Green and Embiid also responded with long baskets to give the Sixers the definitive lead. Embiid then dunked to give his team a 7-point lead with 2 minutes left.

Curry nears three-point basket record

Stephen Curry had 22 points and the Golden State Warriors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 104-94.

Curry is now just nine three-pointers off the record for three-pointers. His total is 2,964, while the mark set by Ray Allen between 1996 and 2014 is 2,973.

On the other side, Norman Powell scored 26 points in the loss, but was only 1 in 7 over long distance.

The Blazers were deprived of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum due to injuries.
