NARRATOR – Akett Sabbagh made history at the Junior Pan Am Games

The medal table for the First Pan American Games in Cali does not include the symbolic medal won by communicator Akett Sabbagh, the most Dominican of all Colombians, with her excellent work.

The beautiful and tall blonde – who in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Law, a career she has never practiced because she fell into the arms of journalism – made history in the recently concluded continental fair by narrating ten sports for the Panam Sport Channel.

“For me it was one of the best experiences of my life. First for representing the Dominican Republic on an international channel such as Panam Sports Channel in the transmission of these Junior Games, meeting new people and learning many things ”, he highlights.

Although she is a graduate of a Master in Communication and a Master of Journalism in Radio, Television and Multimedia in accredited Spanish universities, her ability and knowledge were subjected to the hardest test because she had to describe the incidents of weightlifting, judo, karate, volleyball, handball, artistic swimming, 3X3 basketball and badminton.

Since she had not narrated karate, judo or artistic swimming competitions, a discipline of which she only had basic knowledge, before sitting in the broadcast booth she was compelled to study them, investigate how they were narrated and also sought help from former athletes to make a performance that in the end was crowned with glowing comments from fans, sports authorities of various nationalities and by their colleagues.

“I took on this challenge as an experience that was going to bring me great lessons and knowledge because most of the sports that I dominated – such as tennis, soccer and baseball – did not touch me. So, it was a lesson to delve into sports that I hardly knew in order to do a good job, “says Akett, who since 2020 is the presenter of Noticias Colimdo, the channel of the Dominican Olympic Committee, an organism of which she will be eternally grateful for the trust that have deposited in it.

Likewise, he thanks the former head of the COD, Luis Mejía Oviedo, whom he defines as his father in sports for having given him the opportunity to work in what he likes, a role he had done in 2018 in the CDN Sports Magazine.

In her service sheet it is stated that she has worked as a narrator for the Dominican Football League and also in national and international tournaments held at the Santo Domingo Tennis Club, a sport that she practiced there in her childhood and early youth.

“It was a very nice experience, I met many professionals from all over the world. I lived the experience of participating in the games and belonging to a family like that of Panama ”, declares Akett, who was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, but when he was three years old his parents decided to come to the country because of the violence that then existed in that nation.

“I have dual nationality, but I feel more Dominican than Colombian,” says the young communicator, who also speaks fluent English and has an advanced level of French studies.
The catwalks and the world of fashion also seduce her in 2015 she was elected Miss Barahona, a province that she represented that year in the Miss Dominican Republic pageant, where she was a semifinalist.

A simple glance at their networks confirms in photos and videos what is evident at first glance: the combination of sport, beauty, discipline, intelligence and professional skills.
