If you’re skeptical about Christmas miracles, here’s what happened in Detroit, where the Lions won their first game of the entire season in the NFL with a last second touchdown. The laughingstock of the league for several seasons and apparently more concerned with who they’ll pick with the No. 1 pick for the 2022 Draft, the Lions reached this Sunday with 10 losses and the aforementioned tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the magic of the holiday season gave them an unforgettable day at Ford Field.
A pass with two seconds remaining on the clock to Amon-Ra St. Brown by Jared Goff sparked a frenzy in Detroit. The local players themselves raised their hands to their heads in disbelief at their first victory, while the Minnesota Vikings will bear the ridicule having been defeated by Lions 29-27.
For the first time since Week 1, Jared Goff made three touchdown passes. and accumulated 296 passing yards. The much-criticized quarterback, who came from the Rams in a trade that sent Matthew Stafford to LA earlier this season, blended into a huge hug with his coach Dan Campbell, who in previous weeks had publicly pledged him to be much better.
Minnesota did not have Dalvin Cook as a starting running back, although he was correctly supplied by Alexander Mattison with 90 yards and a touchdown. The best player for the losers was Justin Jefferson, the receiver who had 182 yards and a touchdown.
