Medvedev leads tennis figures who will play in Mexico in 2022

Mexico, Dec 22 (EFE) .- Russian Daniil Medvedev, champion of the United States Open this year, leads the group of first-rate tennis players who will play tournaments in Mexico in the first part of 2022.

Medvedev, second in the ATP ranking, leads the field of the Acapulco Tennis Open, which will be held from February 21 to 26 and will feature other recognized figures such as the German Alexander Zverev, Olympic champion and third best player of the moment , and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, fourth racket in the world.

The Italian Mateo Berrettini, finalist at Wimbledon and seventh in the ranking, is another confirmed figure for the open.

Medvedev will return to Mexico shortly thereafter, on March 21, to face his compatriot Andrey Rublev, fifth in the ATP, in an exhibition match.

The tennis party in Mexico in the first months of next year will also feature women, including Canadian Leylah Fernández, who at the age of 19 reached the final of the US Open and from March 15 to 21 will defend her title at the Monterrey Open.

“I am happy to play this tournament again, it is important for me. Mexico is like my second home, in Monterrey I won my first title,” said this month Fernández, who will have among his rivals the Russian Anastasia Pavluchenkova, eleventh in the WTA , and the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, fifteenth.
