Max Verstappen nominated for big prize after absurd race

A day after an insane Formula 1 race in Saudi Arabia, there is little consolation for Max Verstappen. BBC has nominated the Dutch driver for the prestigious award for World Star of the Year.

Whether Max Verstappen will become the first Dutch world champion in Formula 1 will become clear next week. The cards are shuffled, these are the scenarios. For the rest, the Dutch are not interested in what kind of prizes or awards there are. But that does not alter the fact that he has been nominated for a prize that is so honorable for other athletes.

Max Verstappen nominated for World Star of the Year

Max Verstappen has a chance to be chosen as World Star of the Year at the annual sports election of the British broadcaster BBC. The Dutch Formula 1 driver is one of the six nominees. Last year, the award went to Russian UFC fighter Kabib Nurmagomedov.

The 24-year-old Dutch driver is competing in Formula 1 for the world title with Lewis Hamilton. They will start the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi on Sunday with the same number of points (369.5).

Voting via BBC website

Voting can be done via the BBC website until Tuesday 14 December. The awards will be presented at the British Sports Gala on Sunday 19 December, culminating in the Sports Personality Award. Last year it went to Lewis Hamilton. The Briton then conquered his seventh world title in Formula 1 and also equaled the record of the German Michael Schumacher.

Max Verstappen has competition for the global sports prize from boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and jockey Rachael Blackmore, among others. American football player Tom Brady, tennis player Novak Djokovic and Elaine Thompson-Herah are also competing for the prize. Not a bad line.
