Mathieu van der Poel had to give up in Heusden-Zolder. But had he fallen? It was generally assumed that this was the case, but there was no definite answer. Until now. Images have surfaced of the crash of Mathieu van der Poel.
Even before Van der Poel got off, it was noticed that there was dirt on the top of the back of his shirt. That indicated a crash, but it was not entirely certain until now that Van der Poel fell to the ground in the cross in Heusden-Zolder.
Images from the Cyclocross Social Twitter channel show that Van der Poel has indeed fallen. The images show how Van der Poel had to take a sharp bend next to the circuit and it went wrong. Van der Poel then had to scribble straight, take the bike by the hand and then start again.
After the contradicting reports yesterday, here is the proof that Mathieu did crash yesterday pic.twitter.com/2K59iONpJ9

Is it this fall that makes the back pain play up again at Van der Poel? Possibly. In any case, this was the last time this year that Van der Poel could be seen in the field. The Loenhout cross and also that of Hulst has been deleted from his program.
