Caljouw (WR-28) had never played against Kidambi before, but knew it wouldn’t be easy against the former number 1 in the world. The first rally of 21 strokes looked like a harbinger of a long game, but the Indian quickly ran out a few points on the 26-year-old Dutchman. Caljouw lost the first game 21-8.
In the second game, Kidambi shifted up a gear even further and went on to win the second game 21-7. Despite the loss in the quarterfinals, Caljouw can look back on a strong tournament.
