Malaysia Wants to Complete Revenge against Indonesia in AFF U-23 Cup

Malaysia determined to take revenge on Indonesian National team from AFF U-23 Cup after a painful exit in the 2021 AFF Cup (2021).

Malaysia and Indonesia are back in the same group, but this time in the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup which will be held in Cambodia, 14-26 February. The meeting of the two allied nations in the AFF U-23 Cup based on the recent drawing.

Quoted from Malaysian media Utusan, Harimau Muda is determined to make up for the defeat of the senior team when they were beaten 1-4 by the Garuda Squad in the last match of Group B of the AFF Cup.

The U-23 Indonesian national team itself is the defending champion in the AFF Cup after beating Thailand 2-1 in the 2019 edition at the Olympic Stadium, Cambodia.

The U-23 AFF Cup will be the first task for Malaysia U-23 coach Brad Maloney before facing three other tournaments next year.

“One draw that I hope will be a fierce competition when placed in the same group with Indonesia, Myanmar and Laos,” said Maloney quoted from Messenger.

“We will gather the team for a training session and hold some friendly matches in January, in preparation for the tournament which starts in February,” Maloney added.

In the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup, Malaysia is in Group A with Indonesia, Myanmar and Laos. By having 11 contestants divided into three groups, the semifinalists will be filled with the winner of each group and one best second place.

In addition to the U-23 AFF Cup, Malaysia U-23 will appear at the SEA Games in Vietnam in May 2022. After that, the squad will also perform at the U-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan, followed by an appearance at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
