Lyra-Lierse will develop the stadium under its own steam. The city does retain ownership of the land and grants a right of use.

“Being able to play football in Lier again with our A-team is very important to us,” said chairman Yves De Vil in a first reaction. “We are a club of and for Lier. We are very pleased that the city is thinking along with our plans and ambitions. I’m a real Pallieter myself and I’m really looking forward to it: matches with a view of the Sint-Gummarustoren.”

The city of Lier is also going to build a youth complex on the Hoge Velden site. “This is wonderful news for our youth players, but also for all trainers, supervisors and parents,” said Eric Van Meir, Liers football icon and ambassador of the club. “Our four-star youth organization can look forward to an accommodation that reflects the quality of our training.”

Lyra-Lierse is currently in second place in second national B, the fourth division in national football.

“Historical agreement”

There is also excellent news for the neighbors of Lierse K.. The club is partly ceding the Hoge Velden site, where Lyra-Lierse will therefore move. In exchange, the city offers full cooperation to the long-awaited renovation of the Lisp. There is to be a multifunctional stadium with a capacity of 10,000 covered seats. The city will also finance the construction of the new synthetic turf pitch.

“This is an extremely important agreement, even historically, for all concerned,” said Lierse chairman Luc Van Thillo on the club’s website. “We have worked on this for a long time with all parties, and then you can move mountains. It is important to us that the project around the new stadium now gains definite momentum. Our stadium primarily serves the matches of Lierse, but in these times multifunctional use is also necessary. With this agreement, we are now taking a step in this direction, which will bring life to the Lisp site throughout the day.”
