Latvian Olympic Committee opens the eighth season of the All – Latvian project “Sport whole class” Press release

Today, the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) opened the eighth season of the project “Sporto whole class” with a joint online event created in the mood of Christmas. This year, 314 classes and more than 7,000 children from 106 schools are participating in this project, in which its participants have to play sports every day. The project was launched with the aim of encouraging children to play sports and encouraging them to exercise. Children from 2nd to 6th grade participate in the project.

LOK President George Tikmer: “The project has grown from six classes in six municipalities to a pan-Latvian project, because after the new territorial reform we see that almost all of Latvia is participating in our project – 36 out of 43 municipalities are represented. This year “We are delighted that, regardless of the circumstances created by Covid, we have tried to ‘conjure up’ a sense of belonging and togetherness in this project for every project participant. Today we see that we are all a team.”

For the fourth year in a row, the Latvian Olympic Committee is also presenting special awards in four nominations: the most active municipality; active educational institution; the most responsive class teacher; most responsive sports teacher / ge.

The nominations are presented in order to thank the project participants, whose involvement, support and dedication to the project are invaluable.

This year’s winners are:

The most active municipality is Talsi municipality (11 county classes participate in the project).

The most responsive class teacher – Sarmīte Gobiņa (Gulbene Region Secondary School) – is always actively involved in the project and provides suggestions for improving the project, and is both a class teacher and a sports teacher.

The most responsive sports teacher – Sergejs Dolotins (Āgenskalns Primary School). Always actively involved and gives valuable advice during the project. In addition, he was nominated for the Three Star Awards 2021 in the nomination “Sports Teacher of the Year” this year.

The program “Sporto whole class” was created in 2013 with the aim to purposefully improve the physical fitness and posture of all students in the 2nd – 6th grades, giving motivation to engage in sports, as well as to evaluate students’ progress in studies. It is an opportunity to learn about different sports, as well as to strengthen the understanding of achieving a common result as a team. The author of the idea of ​​the program “Sporto whole class” is the Olympic vice-champion in rowing and the president of LOK George Tikmer.
