There have been small changes in the composition of the Riga City Council Cup, unfortunately due to the restrictions of Covid-19, the Belarusian national team will not be able to attend the games in Latvia.

“We are glad that, despite the current situation in the world and the difficulties encountered during the organization of the tournament, we were able to organize the traditional Riga City Council Cup at the end of this year.
First of all, a big thank you to each player and coaches for their willingness to represent the national team and delight our supporters in this tournament, thus also preparing for the qualifying games for the European and World Championships, which will take place in January. We also thank the club team, which was mobilized at the last minute, due to the sudden withdrawal of the Belarusian B team due to the restrictions on Covid-19, “says LHF Secretary General Līga Bīriņa.

“We have been training camp in Dobele since Monday. In these trainings we put the greatest emphasis on physical fitness. In the morning trainings we do not touch handball balls, but in the evenings there are tactical trainings, maintaining a high intensity. “The head coach of the Latvian national team Sandris Veršakovs tells about the preparation stage. “It is clear that they will not be available for all qualifiers, but we will explain and clarify it, so the information will follow. The ship will join after the New Year. “

“The goal of the Riga City Council Cup is to ‘play’ the team, to prepare for the qualifying games, of course, the result is also important, but these valuable games to prepare and play all kinds of variations in our team,” adds Veršakovs. “Unfortunately, the Belarusian team will not be able to come, so a national team of Latvian clubs (B) has been formed, which will be led by Arnolds Straume. It is clear that we will have the opportunity for coaches to see them in action against adult teams. “

The exact composition of the teams will be published before the Riga City Council Cup games.
