La Vega, Barahona and Santiago dominate in school basketball

SANTO DOMINGO. The quintet of the Liceo Eladio Peña de la Rosa (La Vega) debuted with a 63-58 victory over the Colegio Fénix (San Cristóbal), on the second day of the VIII National Tournament of Male School Basketball and III Female, which have headquarters the Palacio de los Deportes and the Albergue Olímpico, respectively.

The first half ended with a score of 28-26, favorable to vegans, who came from behind in this period.

Cristopher Báez led the vegans with 17 points and Adrian Beras added 10. Yariel Ulloa was the best for the San Cristobal with 15 points, Darlin Martínez 11 and Juriel Abreu had 10.

The event is organized by the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) and the contest of the Ministries of Education and Sports, respectively.

The Liceo Católico Tecnológico de Barahona (LICATEBA) beat Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Santiago) 61-50, to improve his record at 1-1.

The Barahoneros relied on Densel Sánchez’s offense with 16 points, Joel Ortiz 14 and Denny Martínez contributed 13.

Santiago had Olvis Guzmán his best scorer with 16 points, and Yodiel Cruz added 12.

In another match, the Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Santiago) high school team dominated Eladio Peña de la Rosa (La Vega) 77-74 to get their second victory in three starts.

Olvis Guzmán led a balanced winning offense with 13 points. Yodiel Cruz and Henry Torres added 10 each.

For vegans, Daniel Pérez led with 15, Frandy Jiménez 13 and Darlin Martínez 12.

In female, the Santo Cura de Ars Educational Center (Cescar), representing the Metropolitan area, had its peers from the Dr. Miguel Canela L. Scientific high school, (San Francisco de Macorís) by means of a 76-54 board, at stake held at the Albergue Olímpico.

Player Gloribel Rodríguez scored a whopping 37 points for the winners, who also received 15 from Ana Mieses and 11 from Karina Capellán.

The francomacorisanas had their best scorer in Yairis Ovalle with 21 units.

The school activity continues this Wednesday at the Palacio de los Deportes and the Albergue Olímpico from 9:15 in the morning.
