Madrid. Rafael Nadal tested positive for Covid-19 upon his arrival in Spain, after playing an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, the tennis player confirmed through Twitter.

He indicated that he is going through “unpleasant moments”, but that he hopes to improve “little by little”. He is isolated at home and everyone who was in contact with him has already been informed.

Among his contacts was former Spanish monarch Juan Carlos I, who has lived in the United Arab Emirates since allegations of financial scandals that compromised the royal family last year. According to the Spanish newspaper The world, the tennis player and Juan Carlos, 83, ate together on Saturday and publishes a photo of both without a mask.

According to the Sputnik agency, the Spanish Royal House reported that the former head of state has already received the negative result of the coronavirus test.

Nadal indicated that he will have to be flexible with his schedule of games, which begin in January 2022 with two tournaments in Melbourne, one for the ATP and the Australian Open. He said he will look at his options in the future, depending on his physical condition. On Friday, he played his first meeting in more than four months, losing in straight sets to Andy Murray in an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi.
