Kyle Seager has made the decision to step down before the end of the 2021 season

Yesterday, Kyle Seager took the baseball world by surprise by announcing his retirement. The Mariners third cushion player, who had been released by his lifelong club, will never play anywhere else and never make the playoffs as a player.

On paper, he was a coveted player for his left-handed stick and his play on third base. You might think the Blue Jays were teams that wanted to acquire it.

But in fact, we learn that he never intended to sign elsewhere.

According to what the main interested party said, his intention was never to play elsewhere since he had decided, in September 2021, that he was not going to play in 2022.

At the time, we suspected that the Mariners were not going to bring him back. So he felt he had come to the end of the road and he chose that he had had enough.

Seager started thinking about this at training camp, wanting to spend time with his family. The work stoppage did not influence his decision.

This is to say that all the rumors that circulated this winter about him, he must have laughed.

I don’t know, however, why he waited in December, in the middle of lockout, to announce its decision. Maybe he wanted to mature her to make sure he wasn’t wrong?

It will be recalled that the Mariners players went straight to him when the season ended – like the CH players with Shea Weber against the Lightning. It speaks loudly, with hindsight.

Will we see him again in the Mariners’ entourage in a few years?
