Juventus: Zoff on the sidelines between Allegri and Morata

Juve won their home game against Genoa, but on the fringes of the game a quarrel between coach Allegri and striker Morata caused a stir.

Massimiliano Allegri and Alvaro Morata fought a heated battle of words on the sidelines of Juventus Turin’s 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday. The Bianconeri coach instructed his attacker to “shut up”.

Morata had clashed with Genoa’s Davide Biraschi in the 72nd minute when Juventus was 1-0 and received a yellow card. Because the Spaniard hardly wanted to calm down afterwards, Allegri switched him to Moise Kean.

Allegri on Morata’s substitution: “Disappointing”

The removal was also not well received by Morata and he railed against his coach on the sideline. Through the external microphones, he could clearly be heard asking: “What have I been doing?” Allegri then clearly reprimanded him: “You fouled, you should shut up.”

Morata, who scored 5 goals in 19 appearances this season, later stressed in a post on Instagram that there had been “no controversy”. Rather, they “always stand together”.

Allegri agreed after the game DAZN on the situation: “He received a warning and continued to argue. So I preferred to replace him. That was disappointing because Alvaro, like the entire team, had played well.”

Juventus won in the end thanks to goals from Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala and celebrated their second win in a row. The record champions, who started the season moderately, thus climbed to fifth place in the table. The gap to a Champions League rank is seven points.
