Junior Pan American: Peru won its sixth gold medal at the close of its presentation

The Peruvian karateka got the sixth gold for Peru.

Gianella Lozano won against her Colombian rival, Laura Pescador, in the +68 kg category. Our representative occupied third place during the first phase, which gave her the pass to the semifinals, where she beat the Brazilian Rafaella Dos Santos. In the final, the match ended 1-1, but it favored him to have scored the first point. With this medal, there are 4 that Peru achieved in the discipline of karate. In previous days, the volleyball team had won silver, which, even before Gianella’s victory, was our last medal.

The Peruvian representation, in the Pan American Junior Cali Valle 2021, closed its participation ranking 12th in the medal table. Peru added 6 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze medals, making a total of 35. Brazil finished as leader of the medal table with 163 medals, followed by the locals, Colombia, with 145.

In this first edition of the Junior Pan American Games, Peru achieved direct qualification to the 2023 Pan American Games for 4 of its medalists, Gianella Lozano, Gonzalo Bueno, Sofía Mamani and Julio Palomino. They all won their individual competitions.
