SANTO DOMINGO. The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) announced that the National School Basketball Tournament will be inaugurated this Monday at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace.
Esteban Pérez Polanco said that the event takes place nine years after its last version. In masculine it will be the VIII Championship and in feminine the number III.
The INEFI technical director, Juan Roa, said that the contest is the result of the elimination rounds carried out in the 122 school districts, with their intramurals and the elimination rounds in the 18 Education Regionals.
Teams representing the South, East, Northwest, Northeast and Metropolitan regions will perform.
The national contest is scheduled from December 6 to 11 with venues in the ‘Media Naranja’ for men, and the Albergue Olímpico, for women.
“All this has led to the participation of 1,427,000 secondary school students and 1,040,000 primary school students,” he said.
Roja indicated that “recreational activities were held in primary school and in the sporting aspect we worked in the disciplines of mini-basketball and mini-volleyball.”
“In those intramurals we emphasized six basic curricular sports, namely chess, basketball, baseball, soccer, gymnastics and volleyball,” he said.
