At the beginning of December, the Bietigheim Steelers are strengthening themselves with a new ice hockey professional from the USA. Avery Peterson apparently soon regrets this decision. And just go away. Now there is likely to be a legal battle.

Dhe Bietigheim Steelers are considering bringing legal action against their player, Avery Peterson. “We are currently examining the extent to which we can take legal action regarding breach of contract and claims for damages,” said the club from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

Peterson joined a team from the North American league ECHL without approval. The DEL and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) were informed – and the DEB in turn informed the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

Peterson had only come from the Milwaukee Admirals earlier this month. Before the game at the Iserlohn Roosters on December 17th, the striker announced that he could no longer play, was ill and wanted to return to the USA immediately, write the Steelers.

“His equipment was hanging in the cabin”

“We wanted to send him to the doctor to have him examined – he refused. For several days we tried to have him receive further medical care – he always refused to do so, ”the message says. He also did not accept psychological support. “We did all of this in close coordination with his agent,” said the club.

Peterson then “booked his flight on his own initiative and flew back to the USA”, write the Bietigheimer: “His equipment was hanging in the cabin, his car was in front of the apartment and the apartment key was on the table – it was just gone!”

In the meantime, they have found that the 26-year-old has another agent. “Such fraudulent behavior has no place in professional sport,” it says at the end of the message from the Swabians.
