IBU decides to award Berger the Big Crystal Globe for the 2013/2014 season

The Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) has decided to award the Big Crystal Globe of the 2013/2014 season to Tura Bergere from Norway, who will share the championship with Kais Mekereinen from Finland.

Following the decision of the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS), the disqualification of Russian biathlete Olga Zaitseva came into force, canceling the results of nine competitions in the 2013/2014 season. Eight years ago, at the end of the season, Mekereinen was five points ahead of Berger, but recalculating the results of the 2013/2014 season, the Norwegian is now four points ahead.

As it is not possible to repeat the circumstances in which the two athletes could compete for the title in a fair fight, the IBU Executive Committee has unanimously decided to award two Big Crystal Globes, declaring both biathletes the champions.

The IBU believes that this decision is fair to both athletes, given the principle that non-doped athletes should not suffer from the misconduct of other athletes.

Both biathletes will be welcomed in the next round of the World Cup. Berger will also receive a bonus bonus.

The three-time season champion Mekereinen ended his career last year, but now Bergere, the owner of two titles, ended his professional career in 2014.
