SC Cambuur goalkeeper Sonny Stevens received his thirtieth, 31st, 32nd, 33rd, 34th and 35th goal of this Eredivisie season against Vitesse on Saturday. The 29-year-old North Hollander acknowledged afterwards that he was not free, especially with Vitesse’s fifth goal.
Stevens told ESPN of a “dramatic” evening. “I think we played a very mediocre pot. But that was it? No idea, really not a clue. I think we have fallen far below the lower limit. And I still below that for a while. These kinds of balls are of course never allowed in”, he referred to Vitesse’s 1-5.
That goal by Lois Openda came about after Stevens let the ball fall from his hands. “That made no sense at all,” he commented. “I think I’m already on the next move. I think I want to pick it up and then throw it back in. I just let it go and I don’t know what I’m doing actually… Very, very bad.”
The 1-6 defeat meant a cruel end to a series for Cambuur with four Eredivisie victories in a row. The reigning Kitchen Champion Division champion is passed by Vitesse and is now sixth.
