Gwangju to host Archery World Championship in 2025 l KBS WORLD

The city of Gwangju, located in southwestern South Korea, has been elected as the host city for the 2025 World Archery Championship.

The city’s mayor, Lee Yong-seop, today announced the results of the ballot for the execution committee of the International Archery Federation. Gwangju was acclaimed by ten votes against only one for Madrid.

Created 90 years ago, the World Archery Championship is the discipline’s largest competition, involving 1,100 archers from around 90 nations. This will be the third time that the Land of Clear Morning will host this event after the 1985 edition in Seoul and the 2009 edition in Ulsan.

The mayor recalled that Gwangju had already successfully organized many international sporting events including the 2015 Summer Universiade and the 2019 World Swimming Championships, before committing to deploying all his efforts to compete. of 2025, one of the biggest successes in the history of the archery championship.

In addition, the city of Gwangju has been selected to also organize the 2022 edition, initially scheduled for Shanghai in China.
