The city of Hueva said goodbye yesterday to the Absolute World Badminton Championship with the finals of the competition that once again filled the Carolina Marín Sports Palace, in which a total of 250 games have been played during a week with the participation of the best rackets in the world.

The World Cup event leaves its mark not only in the memory of Huelva’s residents and the participating athletes, but also in the facilities of the Sports Palace, where yesterday the mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz; accompanied by the president of the International Badminton Federation, Poul-Erik H0yer Larsen; and the president of the National Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi, They discovered a commemorative plaque for the 2021 World Cups in Huelva.



Gabriel Cruz has been “enormously satisfied for a World Cup that will be remembered for a brilliant organization and a great sporting level, which have made us enjoy the best badminton in the world. Huelva has once again proven to be an excellent host ”.

Likewise, the local councilor has highlighted “the unique and historical projection” that Huelva has had thanks to the Total Energies BWF World Championships 2021 and, in this regard, he recalled that “It is the fifth most followed sporting event in the world with which we have had an unprecedented media presence of the Huelva brand at an international level, reached 614 million homes through television broadcasts and streaming through social networks, mostly on the Asian continent, a market in which it would be impossible to project our image in any other way “.

In this sense, Cruz has also highlighted the importance of the presence of Carolina Marín, that even though he has not been on the track due to his injury and we have not been able to celebrate his fourth world title as we hoped, we have had her among us these days and she has become the best ambassador of these World Cups ”.

For the mayor, “the World Cup event has been a resounding success” and has grateful to the organizing committee, to all the participating administrations, and to the more than 500 volunteers for their great work to make it possible for the Carolina Marín Sports Palace to look spectacular in this World Cup ”.

Likewise, it has recognized the involvement of the public and the warmth provided by the people of Huelva to the athletes of the different international federations. “Huelva has made this World Cup its own, for which every day more than 900 schoolchildren have passed, and in which we have shown the hospitality that characterizes our city ”.
