Football: Montpellier back to training without Mavididi but with Estève

After a week’s vacation, the Pailladins returned to training on Wednesday, December 29. A recovery in which the young defender participated, unlike the English striker and other of his teammates.

A short week’s vacation and then … comes back. This Wednesday, the Montpellier HSC players returned to Grammont and the training grounds for a smooth recovery four days before the knockout stages of the Coupe de France against Strasbourg, Sunday (4 p.m.).

Wind in the back after a sparkling month of December (5 successes in 5 matches, L1 and Cup combined), the Pailladins trod the lawns of the training center under the squalls. Small games and especially oppositions on reduced ground were on the program under the eyes of Olivier Dall’Oglio and his staff.

If many elite clubs are struggling with the surge in Covid cases, which affect even coaches as in Strasbourg, the technician had the majority of his workforce at his disposal. And in particular the ghosts Béni Makouana and Maxime Estève.

Estève “selectable” Sunday

The first, returned to the Congo to settle family matters, jogged aside before training indoors. He must meet the group this Thursday.

For Estève, this is already the case. Victim of a thigh injury at the end of November, the young defender took part normally in the session and is “selectable for Sunday” according to his coach. Who could also count on Jonas Omlin, married during the truce.

Mavididi ill, “small tendonitis” for Mendes

In the radius of the absent, in addition to Ambroise Oyongo gone to the CAN, Stephy Mavididi, diminished by a virus which is not the Covid according to the staff, was authorized to postpone his resumption. The English striker is expected this Thursday at Grammont.

Pedro Mendes will still have to wait to make his comeback with the first team. The Portuguese defender, victim of a rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the left knee eight months ago, suffers from a “small tendonitis” in the same knee. “Nothing bad but he won’t be back this Sunday,” ODO said of Mendes who recently took part in a reserve meeting.

Matheus Thuler and Mihailo Ristic have, meanwhile, benefited from a rabe of leave and were expected in Montpellier this Wednesday before returning to training the next day.
