Feyenoord cult hero Christian Gyan died at 43 | Eredivisie

The Rotterdam football family has to say goodbye to Christian Gyan, the Ghanaian right back who played for Feyenoord for almost 10 years. He won the UEFA Cup with the club in 2002, but had to deal with a lot of personal and medical problems after his career.

Christian Gyan came on Feyenoord’s radar thanks to a strong performance with Ghana at the U17 World Cup, where he turned out to be a crowd favorite at right back thanks to his work power and attacking spirit.

The pinnacle of his career was the UEFA Cup victory in 2002. However, it was not all sunshine and sunshine. Due to injuries Gyan dwindled somewhat in the second part of his career and even after he had hung his shoes on the hook, fate continued to defy him.

Gyan had financial problems and had to give up his job in the port of Rotterdam because of epilepsy. A month ago it was revealed that the Dutch Ghanaian had terminal cancer. “Rest in peace brother, you fought hard,” writes his ex-teammate Kalou on Instagram.
