The dress rehearsal for the top duel against Padova (Sunday, 2.30 p.m.) was a success. In front of the home crowd, FC Südtirol swept the guests from Fiorenzuola d’Arda 4-1 out of the stadium – with Simone Davi becoming the man of the game.

Simone Davi already has more playing minutes (553) on the clock than in the entire previous season (497). The Leiferer in the FC Südtirol jersey is about to become a fixture in the highest-rated defense in Europe (only five goals conceded). The 22-year-old left-back has always played in the last eight games, with Davi starting six times.

The high point in Davi’s career so far followed on Sunday afternoon against Fiorenzuola. The template for the lead (16th) was followed by the FCS home grown-up with the first professional hit. Because Davide Voltan made it 3-0 a little later with a long shot, the match was decided before the break.

Newcomer Fiorenzuola did not present himself like the typical underdog in the Drusus Stadium. The Emilians pressed extremely high and built away from the goalie when they had possession of the ball. The White-Reds only had problems with that in the first few minutes – after that it played into their cards. With good ball circulation and clever lateral shifts, the FCS managed to break free from the pressing. The result was large spaces in midfield, which Daniele Casiraghi & Co. skillfully exploited. A pleasant football game developed, and it was clear to see: If the opponent plays with FC Südtirol, then the Javorcic squad shows their true qualities.

The most important scenes of the game

  • Davi is the man of the first few minutes: First he prepares Odogwu’s leading header with a fine dribble and then a cross (16th), then he hits himself with a powerful long-range shot (21st).
  • Voltan decides the game before the break: In the 34th minute he hits – after Tait changed sides – with a long shot to make it 3-0.
  • The second half begins with an own goal from Fiorenzuola right-back Olivera (48th).
  • Downside for the FCS: Curto puts Moscati in distress, who loses the ball in his own penalty area. Zaro fends off the next shot with his hand. There are penalties (which Palmieri converts) and the red card for the central defender. He’s missing against Padova.

By the way: The first pursuer Padova did not get beyond a 1: 1 at Giana Erminio. FC Südtirol is therefore going into the top game with a lead of six points.
