Deck also ends up in the Development League

A little over a week ago the news appeared that Usman Garuba was going to play with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G-League, the Houston Rockets affiliate team. There he played three games in which he could count on minutes, something unusual at the moment for him in the NBA. The ex-madridista has already returned to the discipline of the Rockets, but the Real Madrid universe does not disappear from the Development League.

Now it’s Gabriel Deck’s turn. The Argentinian becomes part of the Oklahoma City Blue discipline, a team associated with the Thunder. The truth is that this news cannot surprise anyone, beyond how unusual this type of movement may seem outside the United States. There, every year and every franchise does it, even though usually not with foreign players, signed directly from leading teams in Europe and with 26 years. But Deck’s status with the Thunder was not promising at all.

This season He has played only 5 games with an average of 4.6 minutes. The day he played the most, there were 9, more than a month ago. He has scored 9 points and grabbed 3 rebounds in total. Poor numbers for a starting player in the Argentine team and one of the most important men in Madrid when he left for the NBA last April. His contract, which he signed for four seasons (three and the remainder of the past) is not guaranteed either year. And, without going any further, this season the Thunder can undo it on January 10th.

On Friday he can debut with the Blues in a game against the G-League Ignite. We will see how long Deck stays in the Development League, where he will surely recover sensations based on minutes. But the real question is whether those minutes will help him get back to the first team, earn a spot in the rotation, and stay in the NBA beyond January 10.
