Darts player Fallon Sherrock returns to Alexandra break after a year break. After her highly regarded victories at the Darts World Cup two years ago – it was the first by a woman in the history of the tournament – she has now qualified again. The biggest event of the darts year starts on December 15th.
And this time, Sherrock does not travel as the brutal outsider she was in 2019. It has long since established itself among the many men and has caused a few exclamation points, especially in the recent past. A few weeks ago she made it to the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts, where she only failed due to ex-world champion Peter Wright. Before that, the 27-year-old celebrated victories against the German number one Gabriel Clemens and the Austrian top player Mensur Suljovic.
At the World Cup on December 19, she will play the first round against the British veteran Steve Beaton. The match was scheduled to be the highlight of the session and the last of the evening. The bookmakers see Sherrock ahead in this duel. In the third round, she could face world champion Gerwyn Price from Wales.
Dispute about the start in the Premier League
Sherrock has established itself and is accordingly annoyed that she is not treated this way everywhere. “I’m a professional darts player and not a curiosity,” she said to the dpa: “Ultimately, I take part in darts events that are open to everyone and not as a woman in a men’s event.”
A reproach that the organizer of the professional tour has to face, but which in turn also works to her advantage. The PDC and the English TV rights holder Sky are profiting massively from the upswing in Sherrock and are obviously very interested in letting their female draft horse start at as many events as possible. Among other things, there should be considerations to put her in the extremely lucrative Premier League next year, which causes great misunderstanding among some male colleagues.
But now the World Cup is coming up, where Sherrock can get one step closer to their tour card. “I am very happy to be back. It was disappointing to just miss the qualification last year, “she says:” I had a good women’s series this time to qualify and I can hardly wait. ”
