Modric, Brozovic and Perisic: Real-Inter, three Croatian strategists for a first place

In the obligation to win to overtake their opponents in the evening, the Interists started the evening with a lot of offensive ambitions. Marcelo Brozovic quickly placed a heavy recovery from just above (7th) while his Croatian compatriot Ivan Perisic was striking in his left lane. The visitors gave work to Dani Carvajal and the Madrid defenders who nevertheless remained calm and resisted.

The Merengue even gave their opponents a lesson in realism by punishing their relative defensive passivity. From the right, Rodrygo served Kroos in the axis for a strike from the left of 20 meters which hit the mark (1-0, 17th). The German signed his second goal in a row in the Champions League after that against Sheriff Tiraspol (0-3) but also his club’s 1,000th in C1.

The impotent Inter

Simone Inzaghi’s players remained voluntary and threatening but also clumsy in the attempts (13 to 1 on target in the first period). Those of Carlo Ancelotti, them, again made speak their technical mastery thanks to Luka Modric and their offensive edge even if Luka Jovic, holder due to the absence of Karim Benzema, did not frame his sharp shot (36th) and that Rodrygo sent his shot wound in pivot on the left post of Handanovic (45th).

On resumption, Inter provided a great opportunity but Barella sent the ball over the target (48th). The Italian turned the meeting over to the Merengue side by getting angry, understandably enough, when Eder Militao pushed him into the billboards after a race duel (62nd). A fight broke out and the midfielder was sent off by Mr. Brych while his opponent received a yellow card (64th).

The disappointing Lautaro Martinez was replaced immediately (66th) like his friend Edin Dzeko a little earlier (60th). The visitors still paid for their lack of aggressiveness in front of their surface when Asensio, just off the bench, wound up a superb strike from the left to the right corner of the truth zone to score with the help of the opposite post (2-0 , 79th). The Madrid experience and serenity made the difference in this meeting. It will take more for Ancelotti’s men to overcome their neighbors from Atlético in the derby that awaits them in La Liga next Sunday. Inter, she is finally qualified for the round of 16 and knows in which area she still has to progress.
