Beugelsdijk struck by mistake: ‘I did not look and it is a bad ball’

Tom Beugelsdijk has a bad feeling about his last game of 2021. The defender made a mistake and saw Sparta draw 1-1 in the relegation cracker against RKC Waalwijk. He goes through the dust afterwards.

Beugelsdijk wanted to play the ball back to goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, but he did it too softly, allowing Jens to intercept Odgaard. “We would have liked to win this match. And for me personally: you are of course 0-1 behind due to an annoying back pass. I didn’t look. I saw that striker was behind me, so I thought: I’ll play him back to the keeper I haven’t seen that other attacker. It’s a bad ball too,” he says at ESPN.

“If you make a personal mistake that results in a goal, you feel responsible for it. Then it’s just sour that it happens exactly against this opponent. We wanted to win this one so badly. Then you fall behind and you run behind the facts”, according to the excited Hagenaar, who saw Vito make the same thing as Van Crooij. Sparta came no further. “We’ve moved up one spot, but this isn’t what we wanted, that’s for sure.”

The team from Rotterdam is in sixteenth place in the Eredivisie after eighteen matches. Number fifteen RKC has three points more.
