CHIETI. The municipal administration is ready to give the Santa Filomena baseball field to private owners as well. The facility, used by both Chieti baseball teams and Atoms’ Softball, is currently managed by Chieti Baseball. However, the management has long since expired and we are continuing from extension to extension. This uncertain regime does not allow the manager to carry out the extraordinary maintenance work that the field needs. For this reason, the Municipality has thought of a management of no less than ten years which will also include a series of works to improve the conditions of the sports facility.
“The announcement will be ready in January,” said the councilor for sport Manuel Trousers, who yesterday morning was at the Santa Filomena field for an inspection together with the sector manager, Valeriano Mergiotti, and to the technicians of the Municipality. «It was an inspection», the commissioner explained, «to become aware of what needs to be done in the sports facility. The works that the new manager will have to complete mainly concern the redevelopment of stands and changing rooms ». While the changing rooms are usable, even if they need to be renovated, the stands are closed to the public, because they no longer comply with safety regulations.
«With the work on the stands», continued Pantalone, «we will finally be able to reopen the baseball stadium to the public. In this regard, we have also entered into a fruitful conversation with the national president of the Baseball Softball Federation Andrea Marcon which has every intention of making the plant, once redeveloped, a point of reference for the whole of Abruzzo and beyond ». Once the public notice for the new management is ready, the expressions of interest by those who intend to manage the structure will be identified and then the Municipality will start the negotiated procedure. “The operation is a bit like what we have already started for the management of the Palatricalle”, underlined Pantalone. The public notice to identify the parties interested in the management of Palatricalle was published at the end of October. The management entrusted to private citizens of the city’s sports facilities also allows for economic savings for the institution, which has launched a predissesto procedure with a multi-year rebalancing plan.
