Austin Reaves – Wikipedia

Austin Tyler Reaves (Born May 29, 1998 in Newark, Arkansas is an American professional basketball player who is currently under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and plays the position of shooting guard.

Reaves attended Cedar Ridge High School in Newark, Arkansas, where he won the title twice in his first two years.[1]

Among his outstanding achievements in high school, he scored 73 points in a triple overtime win [1] and the award for MVP of a youth tournament with a point average of 43.3 points in four games.[2]

In his senior year he averaged 32.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game and led his team to the title again.[3]

The first year of his college days was marked by injuries and culminated in two surgeries to repair torn labras in both shoulders.[4][5] This meant that he was only a reserve player on his team for the time being. In the second year he became a solid three-point shooter with an exemplary best performance of seven three-pointers in one half.[6] After this increase in performance, he closed the season with an average of 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, shooting 42.5 percent in the three-point range.[7]

After his second season, Reaves moved to Oklahoma and continued the following season (2018-2019 season), due to the NCAA transfer rules.[8] In his third year he achieved another career best with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds and thereby led his team to a 19 point comeback victory against the TCU and achieved the decisive victory meeting.[9] In his third year of college, he averaged 14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and three assists per game and was elected to the Big 12 all-newcomer team.[10] In another outstanding game against the TCU on December 6, 2020, he achieved his season best with 32 points, nine assists and six rebounds.[11] In his senior year, he averaged 18.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game and was elected to the First Team All-Big 12. In March 2021, Reaves signed up for the 2021 NBA draft, waiving his remaining eligibility to play at college.[12]

After not being selected in the 2021 NBA draft, Reaves signed a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers in August 2021.[13]which was converted into a regular NBA contract in September.[14]

He made his NBA debut on October 22, 2021, scoring eight points from the bench in the 115-105 loss to the Phoenix Suns.[15]

Reaves achieved his season highlight so far on December 15, 2021 in a 107: 104 win against the Dallas Mavericks with fifteen points, five of six three-point throws, seven rebounds and the game-winning three in the final seconds of the game.[16]

Reaves is the son of Nicole Wilkett and Brian Reaves. His parents both played college basketball for Arkansas State University. His brother Spencer played very successfully college basketball for North Greenville and Central Missouri before starting a professional career with the Spanish club Juaristi ISB.[10] Reaves credits his brother for sparking his interest in basketball.[17]
