Arizona women’s basketball rises to No. 4 highest on show in AP poll

The last time Arizona women’s basketball reached No. 6 in the Associated Press Poll, stopped there. This time around, the show kept winning and took another step forward, climbing to No. 4 in this week’s poll for reaching a high show.

The Wildcats first rose to No. 6 on December 7, 2020. They spent four weeks there before losing and falling back in the poll. This time, there were no losses.

Arizona defeated the state of North Dakota and New Mexico last week despite losing the starter Lauren Ware to get injured. Meanwhile, other shows were losing. Eight Top 25 teams lost last week, including the former No. 3 Connecticut.

The Pac-12 was not spared. State of oregon, who had been 23rd, lost again to fall to 5-3. The loss of Beavers and Colorado who dropped out of the poll despite not losing means that there are now only two conference teams in the AP Top 25.

In addition to Arizona, Stanford is also charting from the Top 5. The Cardinal is at No. 3 this week, moving up one spot after the loss by UConn. Stanford’s 651 points put him just 17 points ahead of the Wildcats.

Colorado sits just outside the Top 25, just one point behind the current North Carolina No. 25. The Tar Heels scored 64 points to land in last place.

Oregon State, Oregon, Washington state, Y UCLA they are also receiving votes, but their number is negligible. The Ducks have a total of 13 points, the Cougars had 8 points, the Beavers were 3 and UCLA received 2 points.

With the Wildcats men’s team reaching No. 8 in the AP poll earlier in the day, Arizona joins Baylor as the only schools with both basketball teams in the Top 10.

The Wildcats will take to the field when they visit NAU in Flagstaff on December 17. They will then continue to Las Vegas to face No. 11 Texas on December 19.
