Amid the concern about Covid-19, the flight of Argentine tennis players to Australia

A very good handful of Argentine tennis players undertook the trip to Australia to start the 2022 season. Some with a guaranteed place in the main draw of the calendar’s first Grand Slam (starting January 17) and others with the challenge of acting in the rankings, embarked on a charter flight to Melbourne with stops in Santiago de Chile and Sydney.

Diego Schwartzman, Federico Delbonis, the brothers Juan Manuel and Francisco Cerúndolo (accompanied by their sister Leona, Constanza), Sebastián Báez, Tomás Etcheverry, Facundo Bagnis, Thiago Tirante, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Federico Coria, Renzo Olivo, Juan Pablo Ficovich, Pedro Cachin and Nicolás Kicker were some of the national players who left Ezeiza international airport for Oceania on a special flight scheduled by Tennis Australia.

Excited and excited after so much uncertainty about the various limitations imposed by the Australian government linked to the prevention of Covid-19, the tennis players and their coaches posted photos and videos from the comfortable and luxurious charter that will take them to Australia.

Many of the players present there, in addition, were worried until a few hours ago after participating in the wedding of player Andrea Collarini, who presented symptoms of Covid-19 the day after his wedding with Delfina Novillo Corvalán. Juan Ignacio Londero was infected, but the Cordovan did not plan to travel to Australia.

Who did not get on the plane was Rosario Nadia Podoroska, who got off the Australian Open since she has not recovered from an injury.

Between January 1 and 9, the third edition of the ATP Cup, at the Ken Rosewall Arena and the Qudos Bank Arena, both venues in Sydney. Argentina will integrate Group D along with Georgia (Nikoloz Basilashvili, the top figure), Greece (Stefanos Tsitsipas, the leader) and Poland (Hubert Hurkacz, the main card). After the group stage, the four teams that finish as leaders will advance to the semi-finals to compete for the trophy.

Each country in the ATP Cup 2022 will feature five players, while each tie will consist of two singles and one doubles. The No. 2 singles will meet to open the series, followed by the duel between No. 1 and, later, the doubles.

Argentina will be represented by Schwartzman, Delbonis, Coria, Máximo González and Andrés Molteni.
