WTA – Kerber is looking forward to the vacation: “Just do nothing”

Prague (SID) – After the end of a long and turbulent tennis season, Angelique Kerber longs for the days off to relax and wants to switch off completely. “I’m happy that I can really regenerate and sleep in, have no tournaments and commitments and just don’t do anything for the next two to three weeks,” said the three-time Grand Slam winner after the end with the German team at Billie Jean King Cup in Prague.

However, she does not have any specific vacation plans yet. “I think I’ll see what I’m doing in the next few days – because I don’t have that long vacation,” said the 33-year-old. On Tuesday evening, the selection of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) had also lost their second group game against Switzerland, the world ranking ninth Kerber had to admit defeat to Olympic champion Belinda Bencic 7: 5, 2: 6, 2: 6.

Nevertheless, Kerber drew a positive conclusion of this season, in which, after a few initial difficulties, she only really picked up momentum in the summer with the tournament victory in Bad Homburg and the semifinals in Wimbledon. “When I look back now, I played such an incredible six months, beat good players and am back at the top of the top players,” she said.

The Kiel woman returned to the top 10 in the world rankings on Monday after more than two years and is optimistic about the new season. “Of course I’ll try to take the momentum with me,” said Kerber.
