Vital Borkelmans in HLN Sportcast: “Marc Wilmots asked me to come with me to Casablanca, but I want to become head coach myself” | Foreign Football

Together with his assistants Stephan Van der Heyden and Luc Nilis, Vital Borkelmans failed to lead Jordan to the World Cup in Qatar. It immediately meant the end for Borkelmans and co. While Nilis is already working as head coach at Belisia in second amateur, Borkelmans is still looking for a new job. “I was the second candidate to become national coach of Hong Kong, but that fell through,” Borkelmans said in HLN Sportcast. “They chose a Dane who was working in South Korea. I’m just waiting – there are still countries and teams I’m working on. I have enjoyed being coach of Jordan for 3.5 years. Hopefully I can do it again in the future.”

Borkelmans was active for several years in the past as an assistant to the then Red Devils national coach Marc Wilmots. The two still have a good relationship – Wilmots recently asked Borkelmans to become his assistant at Raja Casablanca. “I have had a lot of contact with Marc in recent weeks. He gave me the opportunity to come with me to Casablanca. I really liked that, but I told him I was working on becoming a head coach somewhere. I hope he will do well there.”
