Towards WSBK Mandalika: MGPA Accepts Dyan Dilato’s Resignation and Prepares Marshal

KOMPAS.com – The Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) made two crucial steps ahead of the World Superbike (WSBK) racing event at the Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

First, MGPA is reported to have accepted the official resignation of Dyan Dilato who previously served as Head of Operations for MGPA as of November 15, 2021.

After that, MGPA again held training to finalize readiness marshal or race officials ahead of the Mandalika WSBK which is scheduled to take place on 19-21 November.

The two crucial steps taken by MGPA were the impact of the postponement of the Asia Talent Cup (ATC) race at the Mandalika Circuit.

The 2021 Asia Talent Cup event at the Mandalika Circuit is scheduled to hold four races. Two of the races were originally scheduled to take place on Sunday (11/14/2021).

However, the two races had to be postponed to November 19-21, along with the next two races and the WSBK Mandalika event.

The postponement of the two 2021 ATC races is surprising because the free practice and qualifying sessions have been completed on Saturday (11/13/2021).

In addition, the riders were also present at the Mandalika Circuit a few hours before the race started.

In fact, Astra Honda Motor’s Motorsport Manager, Rizky Christianto, who accompanied the four racers at ATC explained that the rider have entered the track and are ready for the race position.

However, they were never released for warm -up and were even asked to return to paddock because the safety factor has not been fulfilled.

After that, Dyan Dilato as the leader of the competition said that the safety factor that had not been fulfilled consisted of several types, one of which was marshal which is not ready.

Marshal many of us are not ready. They even exciting watching the riders, when they have to raise the yellow flag. From experience, they are not ready,” said Dyan when contacted by KOMPAS in Jakarta.

“They should have served one year as marshal at the national championship, then regional, then the world championship,” said Dyan, who also coached the athletes marshal.

Lack of readiness marshal which became one of the causes of the postponement of the ATC race at the Mandalika Circuit, which later resulted in the resignation of Dyan Dilato.

Antara News wrote, a number of national media santer reported Dyan issued inappropriate words to marshal which he judged negligent while on duty at the Mandalika Circuit.

The President Director of MGPA, Ricky Baheramsjah, apologized for the incident.

“We, on behalf of the organizing company, apologize for his words that hurt the hearts of the NTB people, especially the team marshal,” said Ricky, quoted from Antara News.

“We understand that insulting and whatever happens in the field is not a professional thing. Therefore, he has officially resigned from the MGPA. In the future, everything he does is no longer the responsibility of the MGPA,” said Ricky’s statement.

After that, behind this unfortunate incident, MGPA wanted to ensure readiness marshal ahead of WSBK Mandalika.

In an effort to ensure readiness, MGPA held special training for hundreds of marshal.

“Today everyone marshal take part in the training to prepare for the Mandalika WSBK,” said MGPA’s Director of Strategic and Communication Happy K Harianto, Tuesday (16/11/2021).

Based on reports Antara News, before practice, hundreds marshal collected and some of those who have been appointed as coordinators are briefed on tasks during the race.

Next, para marshal conduct hands-on exercises at the Mandalika Circuit, according to their respective duties and functions.

Some of them are on duty as taxi bikers, flag raisers, and various other roles that will help when an incident occurs in the middle of the race.

“Everyone has to focus when the race starts to finish,” said one of the coaches while giving a briefing to marshal.

National and international motor racing organizer, Faryd Sungkar, explained that the problem of quality and quantity marshal cannot be underestimated because it can lead to fatal accidents.

Marshal must know and practice their duties in detail on a continuous basis. If there are five more days to the big competition and marshal not ready, this is very dangerous,” said Faryd, who had led the GP 500 and SBK races in 1994-1997 at the Sentul Circuit.

“In the event of a fatal accident due to marshal those who are negligent, tarnish the name of our nation,” explained Faryd.

According to Faryd, to solve the problem marshal, the committee needs to bring in chief marshal from every part, from Sentul Circuit and Sepang Circuit, to lead, monitor and improve quality marshal local.

After holding WSBK, the manager of the Mandalika Circuit must also train para marshal intensively to welcome the MotoGP event.

“Don’t let such a good circuit be tarnished by quality marshal the bad one. Indonesia could lose the confidence of the international racing world if that happened,” said Faryd.
